Hi Nathan, I think it would be possible to get up onto that hill, would involve quite a walk but like you say would be well worth while. Would like to find out from Ashley if on their laters Umgeni trip from Kloof to Nottingham Road whether they took steam all the way to Maritzburg or the electric ...

Sorry should have stated that its the Old Natal Main Line. Botha's hill is the station after Hilcrest if I'm not mistaken. The line runs from Pinetown to Cato Ridge and is situated in the greater Durban area.

Botha's Hill Station

This past Sunday we took a trip up the Old Main Line. This is Botha's Hill station, just before Drummond. Building still in relativly good condition, does however have some graffiti on the one wall.

Took a trip today up the Natal Main line, had read that there is a lot of activity on this line. It took a while to find an access road to the viaduct but after asking some locals I found it. 6 trains came past in the just over two hours I was there. Shunter Wagon

A newish looking shunter wagon although it still has the spoornet logo. This particular wagon is used frequently on shunts around pier 1 in Durban harbour.

Some photo's from a trip in December 2008. Great trip, did arrived 2hours late in Durban. We were however in Pietermaritzburg at 06:30 but it took us more than 3 hours to get to Durban due to morning traffic.
