N Gauge 5E and 4E

I nearly fell off my shoes on saturday at Model Train Exchange. they had on display an N Gauge 5E in Blue train livery as well as a red 4E! before everybody jumps up and goes "gimme gimme", the catch is that they are unpowered display models, built by a Spanish company. I did not have my digital camera with but did sneak 2 pics with my phone, so please excuse the quality. But if anybody is near MTE pop in and go have a look inside their N gauge display case. I did not ask prices.

I now know more about where these 2 models come from. They are part of the Del Prado "The World’s Great Locomotives Die-Cast Collection, The Giants that ruled the rails in precision, N-gauge die-cast models. " I dont know if they have been released in ZA before, or are likely to be brought out at all, but its worthwhile keeping a beady eye open "just in case"

Derek - the release is still running in Europe - expect it here towards the end of this year/beginning of next year.

The models are also only available via the partworks - no other source for them, so do not hunt the net!

Thanks, Allan. I see from the description on those links that not only have they got no motors, which is fine, but they can't be towed by a powered loco, which isn't so useful. But nice looking models all the same.

John - "partworks" are the things where they bring out a magazine every two weeks with part of a model, or kit, or a diecast or whatever - like the Scotsman series.

This one is done by Del Prado. I phoned and they said they will doing it here shortly. Here is the link to the relevant site...

The two on bid or buy are expensive.

When they do it locally John, I will get the above two for you (if you have not got it by then). If you want tthe others as well, shout. I will swop them for all the nice morse keys you will be collecting for me from Somalia, Eritrea etc!

The models themseles are solid resin casts - so they could only be used as statics on a layout. A conversion would not be feasible at all, which is a pity!
