OO/HO African profile model railway in Kenya: 07 - the engine shed

Today I laid the track in the engine shed area, and positioned a few buildings and accessories. The shed itself is a Superquick card model, easy to build and with a pleasing appearance. Somehow I have lost the little brick office which attaches to the side of the shed, but if I don't find it I'll just use the prefab office which is shown in the photos. The inspection pits are Peco. The water tank is a Dapol kit, and the diesel fuelling point, prefab office and gantry crane are either Hornby or Bachmann (or a bit of both - I can't remember). There'll be more details added in the next few days, including a shed for the fire appliances.

The coaches in the background are standing on the main line, the circuit of track which goes all around the upper level, a continuous run of a good 22 metres.

My mistake - none of them are Hornby. The fuelling point and prefab office are Bachmann, and the gantry crane is Scenecraft.

I've started doing some more work on the loco depot. At the moment I'm kit-bashing water columns from parts of Dapol signal gantry kits and odd scraps of plastic sprue, based on South African types.

Water columns, a diesel fuel tank and a water tank in the loco depot.
