"Centenary of the Cullinan Line"

In 2006, FOTR facilitated the publishing of a book to comemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of the branch line between Rayton, on the Pretoria to Delagoa Bay railway, and the historic diamond-mining town of Cullinan.
Cullinan is still regularly visited by public FOTR heritage steam train excursions.
Written by Lt-Col JE Samuels, the book contains a facinating review of the topography and history of the line. Through his interests in railways, military history and military transportation, Eric provides detailed descriptions of the huge importance that the Cullinan and Zonderwater areas played during World War II. Apart from housing the largest allied wartime POW camp, the area was also the scene of huge military logistics bases. All of the equipment, large numbers of men, women and machinery had to be coordinated and carried in and out over this relatively lightly-laid single-track branch line railway.
Illustrated with many archive black and white pictures, this book is a must for any SA railway book collector's library. Those interested in SA military hiostory and logistics would also find this book invaluable.
