Today we watched as this loco was delivering new rails along the track between Fish Hoek and Simons Town.
A clamp is fixed to the track and the other end joined by chain to the rail on the train, then the train would move forward pulling the rail off.

Now we know how kilometres of overhead wires gets removed at night!!!

Agreed, it is quite a fascinating group of photos. Especially with the little guy sitting in the foreground keenly watching on, a rail enthusiast in the making perhaps??
