Argus cycle tour and a metro

Post by allanroy »

bit late but here are two pictures I took of a metro approching Glencairn beach during the argus cycle tour. Sorry for the poor quality but I was using a zoom and taking the photo through a sand storm. Wind was gusting to 120 kmh. Of course the train just helps by kicking up alot of sand as it passes over all the sand on the rails.

I knew you had something up your sleeve.Check at the sand on the track. I hope it does not interfere with the train.

sand is always a problem at this beach, even the road needs to be cleared now and again. It does not seem to bother the trains at all.

About 25 years ago that particular section of track was actually subject to the few derailments we ever used to have on the Cape Metro system. Not sure what was done but the derailments stopped; possibly a different type of sleeper was eventually used. Trains would go as far as Fish Hoek and buses were borrowed for the single track from Fish Hoek through Sunny cove , Glencairn and Simonston
