Sparkies at Slypklip

Post by Jez Smith »

Hi all,

This is my first photo - it has been pulished before, but it is one of my favourites. A pair of Class 6E1's no's E1325 & E1667 head away from Kimberley with a Rovos Rail Train. The pic was taken between Slypklip and Windsorton Road and it was not long before sunset. The driver told me at Kimberley that the train was headed for Pretoria, but do any members know where the tour ran from, and what was it's route? The date was July 31st 2007.

Thanks,
Jez Smith, Liverpool

Again, nice colours on this set. One thing with the modern traction, the railways are not as boring colour wise, as steam days!!
Train was probably his Cape Town run, but Rovos has so many charters it could have been one from Dar Es Salaam.

Hi Jez I hope you are going to send in more photos. I know you have tons of them. That Rovos was probably coming from Cape Town
