Regards
Monthly Meeting:-
Date & Time:- Wednesday, 19 August 2009. 7.00 p.m. for 7.30.
Venue: Umgeni Steam Railway Depot, Edendale Road, Mason’s Mill, PIETERMARITZBURG
Feature:- Efforts are still being made to secure a guest speaker for the meeting; and Gordon Lumsden has agreed to share visuals of the recent Top Gear episode, where the ‘new’ British A1 “Tornado” loco was pitted against a car and motorbike of 1948 vintage. NB:- Members are invited to bring along some meat for a social braai – fire will be ready for cooking from 6.

Next Month’s Programme:-
Wednesday, 16 September 2009:- Arthur Gammage of the eThekwini Urban Design of Public Spaces Department will be addressing us on the proposals for a possible Historic Rail Route in Durban.

Branch Excursion:- We are considering running a brief Durban/Johannesburg/Durban excursion over the period 23/25 September. It would entail a Premier Classe trip to Joburg, spending the day at the Military Museum and/or Zoo, and then returning overnight on the Trans-Natal. Estimated costs of R1 500 for adults and R900 for children under 10. If interested, please contact me urgently. Please note that there will probably NOT be a Cape Town trip organised in November this year.

Something Different:- For those who wish to view or photograph a most unusual railway activity, find yourself a suitable vantage point along Higginson Highway from about 12:00 on Saturday, 8 August when the 17 coach Phelophepa Primary Health Care train will be arriving from Paulpietersburg and traveling up to Crossmoor, where it will remain for seven weeks.
