Golden Arrow Bus Services in Cape Town tried that in the 1980's. After a while each bus was branded with a different Advert. It looked awful espiacially when the adverts got old and tatty. Can you imagine adding graffiti to that.

Johannesburg has had ad branded buses from when I was in school and one of our favourite accomplishments was comparing which brand of soap you rode in that week. When the forrunners of our bus service used to care they ensured the buses were clean and didnt get tatty and run down. Problem comes in, when somebody pays big bucks to advertise on a train/bus there should be a responsibility to keep those ads and vehicles clean and respectable. Imagine advertising soap on a coach that looks like it has never seen any since the day the ad was put on it.

AOA's on buses makes sense. I recall seeing very striking ads covering the backs of Joburg's Metrobuses.
Certain types of subway cars in NY now carry external advertisments along the length of the car, minus the doors. However it is only a strip measuring around 400mm

Man, I just thought about the whole Metrorail situation...

Living in the 21st century being able to access any information that you could possibly think of with a laptop and a 3G connection even in the middle of nowhere, I find it totally unacceptable that I cannot access ANY timetable from a single MetroRail service other than Cape Town's on the internet!

http://www.metrorail.co.za hasn't been working for the past few weeks and not even the Gauteng Transport site has the relevant info.

I can't even find the business expresses timetable!

What's wrong with these people? How difficult can it be to improve service?

Wait, what am I thinking? Service? In Gauteng? You must be joking! How on earth did we ever get into this position?

How will the Gautrain ever be a success?
