Anyone know what this colour scheme is for, also looks like some repairs done around the windows.

Hi Alan,

This was the original Spoornet livery post SAR/SATS Red. The white/blue stripes was probably too much trouble or some didn't like the colours of the old flag... Transnet Rail Engineering just fixes things these days, so if there's a very rusted part it will be covered up and painted like the rest wheter it's maroon/orange/blue or oxblood. If it's REALLY bad, they will go like through hundreds of processes and the whole loco would be painted in the applicable colour (I've seen 6E1's and 38 Diesels in new TFR colours, plus 6E1's repainted in old orange colourscheme so it doesn't look like there's any fixed rule).
