Hi,

We are getting an increasing number of mid-week steam trains.

Yesterday saw the return working of a 3-day London - Edinburgh and return steam-hauled trip which was A4 pacific No. 60019 Bittern from Edinburgh to York (205 miles) and then LMS pacific No. 6233 Duchess of Sutherland (in its new black livery) from York - London Kings Cross (188 miles).

It shoud be remembered that the this trip covered the entire length of the East Coast mainline - one of Britain's busiest routes with around 5 125mph trains plus stopping trains and freights each hour in each direction.

Here is the train yesterday passing through the centre road at Doncaster at 75mph. Doncaster was the home of huge workshops for much of the LNER's locomotives and carriages. I was extremely lucky to get this photo as the near platform 4 was in constant use and a Kings Cross - Leeds train had just arrived partly blocking the view!
