When I was travelling withthe Outeniqua Tjoe-Choo to Knysna we met the Union Limited in Goukamma.
I'm sorry that these pictures are not the best one, but I think they are interesting and I hope you will like them.

Great Set Andreas. I remember Goukama well. In those days the trains stopped there to let one another through, later it was only Sedgefield. You could get on and off anywhere. WE would get on and off at Swartvlei, just outside Sedgefield as we stayed at Pinelake Marina, go through to Knysna and back by train, just tell the Guard where you wanted to get off. All that without using your car. Yep those were the days

About 10 years ago I rode the Via Rail train from Toronto to Vancouver, a spectacular 72 hour journey. This is Train No 1, the premier passenger train in Canada, but in northern Ontario (which takes roughly a whole day to pass through) it is the only means of access to some of the isolated lodges and cabins, especially in winter, so it stops on request. At one point the Conductor was in my coach speaking to the driver on the radio: "Please stop at mile post 49.5 and try and stop with the baggage car next to the garage with the green door..." Now that's service!Stefan wrote:just tell the Guard where you wanted to get off
