Inside the huge firebox, work has been carried out on removing the first two rows of firebars, so as to enable patches to be put on various holes in the ashpan, to prevent veld fires. Viewed from the driver's side of the
firebox towards the fireman's removed front grates. You can't help noticing where the patch will be placed!

Looking up at the front row of tubes in the 15F firebox, you can clearly see the two holes where the fusible lead plugs will be placed, once the boiler
internal inspection is completed. The white chalk notations are the results of the ultrasonic testing that is regularly carried out on FOTR equipment by Brian Dadford.

And slowly, but surely, work is progressing on restoring 15F 3117 to running order. While most of the cab fittings are completed, the first floor boards have been laid by Steve Smith, Miemie and Tom. Final fastening still to be completed and soon the scuff of footplate feet will add the final touch.
