I thought you would like to see a picture of the crew of 46115 Scots Guardsman yesterday on arrival at Preston. The driver, Mick Rawlings had driven from Carlisle (90 miles) but the fireman, Pete Hanson, looks suitably tired having fired the entire trip in Scotland throughout to Inverness and had just fired the Great Britain train throughout from Glasgow (200 miles) and with a 440 ton train yesterday. Its a sobering thought that in steam days Crewe North shed used to have 2 daily turns with the same crew working throughout to Perth (300 miles) on overnight sleeper trains.
