Dennis Moore: 2 new SA Working Steam books published

Post by Steve Appleton »

From Dennis Moore:

Only 3 weeks after the announcement of the publication of my East German steam photographic album "Beyond the Wall", which incidentally has received a lot of favourable comment particularly regarding its anecdotal photographic diary style of presentation, comes two further publications covering South African subjects.

These landscape format books are available from about Rand 360 (US$42, GBP25) softback, about Rand 430 hardback (+p/p) and hopefully will be of interest to those who find the prices of the 300 - 400 very large landscape books that I usually do a little hard on the pocket. Print on demand books, unfortunately - and for obvious reasons - do lean towards the expensive side.

1. GREENSIDE COLLIERY (Steam Locomotives at work).
A photographic study of the last 15 years of steam action at this, South Africa's last regularly steam worked colliery. Greenside was well known for its fleet of four venerable locomotives, all of which were active right up to the last year of operation (1995). Class 1 4-8-0s from the 1900s and Class 14Rs from the 1910s. The book is the result of some eighteen visits to Greenside, including specially arranged access to the rear of the colliery to where visitors were not normally allowed and which offered some fairly dramatic photographic opportunities.

2. THE ENYATI & VRYHEID CORONATION RAILWAYS.
A photographic album, covering the final 15 years of operation at these Natal colliery systems, South Africa's most scenic mine railway systems, well known for keeping their locos in fine external condition and particularly for their use of GEA and GF Garratts.

Anecdotal text and technical information enliven these books, which are very affordable. As always, post and packing costs are little different for multiple books as for one, so consider those other titles in my 18-book catalogue you may have been thinking about or get together with your friends to place a combined order.

To freely preview all books (all produced on fine art paper), and access the ordering process, simply go to http://www.blurb.com and enter "dennis moore steam" in the search engine. Then hit the appropriate title that may interest you and take it from there. Please e mail me at mailto:Moore3450@mweb.co.za should you experience any difficulty or have any queries. Some e-books for iPads are also available at nominal prices.
Regards
Dennis Moore
