Remember then? First coat matt etch primer. No pipework. Looks like a British loco at this stage.

Britsh Railways class 9F stands with her golden cote on, as the first rays of the new day caress her streamlined form. At this stage, the 9F were being operated as tank locomotives but were found to be lacking in distance and here we see the 9F awaiting fitment of its tender.

It's an old wooden board that we found which says "Spirit of Steam".

That used to be attached to Blou Bul 19D 2749 for a while in the 80's. Interesting nonetheless.

Are locos still allowed to be named nowadays?

That nameboard along with two smoke deflector nameplates, were made from Masonite board by driver Cliff Petzer and nyself in the 1980's. We had them fitted to our loco 3127 class 15F and the name came from the book title "Spirit of Steam" The curved nameplate belongs to Cliff and was mounted on the smokebox handrails.

We still name locos today, no matter what.

I thought there was an issue regarding naming TFHP lease-lend locos. Cannot understand the logic there anyway.
