Diesel Locomotives Can Restore Passenger Rail Services Temporary
The United National Transport Union (UNTU) is grateful and excited that the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has implemented the Union’s suggestions to use diesel locomotives to pull passenger rail coaches as an interim measure to get train services running.

“Using diesel locomotives is more expensive, but it is sending out a loud and clear message to whoever is behind the unprecedented vandalism and theft of the rail infrastructure, the property of all South African taxpayers.

“You will not succeed in your attempts to destroy passenger rail trains, the cheapest form of public transport to all South Africans,” says John Pereira, Acting Deputy-General Secretary of UNTU...
