Shunting the Blue Train Yard

Post by John Ashworth »

On 15th July a team from FOTR took 3664 to Pretoria Station to pick up some scrap coaches from the Blue Train yard. This picture, with UNISA in the background, shows our steam loco shunting where steam is rarely seen.

The University of South Africa stands guard over the scene as the FOTR class 24 Number 3664 collects a rake of redundant 3rd class coaches for safe keeping at their site. Alongside the Spoornet "Baluleka" train set adds some colour to the dull wintry scenery .

The Blue Train yard at Pretoria station had a steamy visitor for the first time since a Union Limited steam safari in the 1990's. Jo-Anna, class 24 number 3664, has collected her load of redundant 3rd class coaches, ready for relocation and looking after at the FOTR site. A bit of the Blue Train and Spoornet's "Green Train", are visible.
