Deep in the bowels of the tender of 15F 3117, John Dadford is putting the final touches to the welds on the replacement piping for the vacuum pipe channel. The 15F has the vacuum reservoir mounted on the flat portion of the tender rear and the pipe work is fed through the water space to below the tender where it then carries on its journey on the surface. The new galvanised pipe is the protective housing for the vacuum pipe. Note the perforated baffle plates to break the movement of the water whilst the locomotive is in operation.

The completed welding inside the tender of 15F 3117. The rotten pipework for the water overflow and vacuum pipe housing had to be replaced. John Dadford, as ever, with his perfect welds.

On top of the 15F tender, the view here is where the vacuum reservoir will be mounted. Welding fumes are seen emiting from the newly fitted galvanised piping, which runs through the water space of the tender. Inside this pipe will be the smaller vacuum pipe from the reservoir which will then surface below the tender frame.
