3117 - vacuum or water?

Post by John Ashworth »

When we put vacuum through 3117 for the first time we picked up a problem. Subsequent investigations showed that the vacuum pans on the tender were full of water - and not just water, but rust and sludge. The pictures show the pan on the driver's side after removal.

It is most unusual to get water in these chambers, but we have a theory how it happened. This rust and junk means now that we have to refurbish them and we look at more delays on getting 3117 to steam.
