PROGRAMME ANNOUNCEMENTS : SEPTEMBER 2009
Monthly Meeting:-
Date & Time:- Wednesday, 16 September 2009. 7.00 p.m. for 7.30.
Venue: Clubhouse of the Durban Society of Model Engineers, Hinton Grove, VIRGINIA
Feature:- Arthur Gammage of the eThekwini Municipality’s Urban Design of Public Spaces Department will be addressing us on the proposals for a possible Historic Rail Route in Durban. Some of the ideas include moving the “Natal†locomotive from Durban station to the ICC; finding a suitable place to plinth the RSSA’s Class H2 loco; commemorative plaques along the original 1860 Durban – Point rail route; and building a replica signal cabin at the location of the level crossing at the bottom end of West Street.
Next Month’s Programme:-
Wednesday, 21 October 2009:- Member Peter Field will be giving us an illustrated talk on his recent visit to Australia, which naturally included plenty of railway adventures. Please diarise the RSSA Natal Branch Photographic Competition, which takes place on 18 November. For more details and how to enter, contact Alan Wilson on 031-201 9687.
Branch Excursion:- Although the bookings for the RSSA outing to Johannesburg over 23 – 25 September have closed, I might be able to find place for one or two male members, but all family compartments have been taken. Contact me urgently if you are interested.
Something Different:- Although this might be academic as the light will no doubt be long gone for photography, but there will be the rather rare spectacle of two Rovos Rail trains scheduled to cross one another between Nshongweni and Cliffdale at about 17:20 on Sunday, 20 September.
