Then and Now
My son asked me today which four 6E1's were destroyed in the two Transkaroo head on collision just outside Gouda in April 1997. I looked through all my Newspaper cuttings, but was unabled to see except 1953. I then came across this photo taken in 1988 of 6E1 1950 in Cape Town station ready with the Blue train. 21 years later (almost to the date) she is still in action and pulled us to Beaufort West. I wonder how many Km she has traveled in 21 years. Does any one else have photos of Electrics or Diesels then and now. If anyone does have the numbers of those four unfortunate 6E1's please let me know.

Re: Then and Now
Hello,
In 1995 on my trip to Cape Town I took a photo of the 1950 in Worcester.
I'm sorry it's poor quality but it was taken on slide and against the sun.

Another shot of 1950. This time flying past N1 City with 1951 and the Transkaroo in tow.

Re: Then and Now
Stefan, when was the last shot of 1950 taken? (The side view with the driver)
The following has just been sent out from Vaughan Mostert in Johannesburg on the SAR-List: wrote:Dear all,
An unusual visitor to Braamfontein north yard on Friday evening was 6E1 1950, freshly painted in purple and apparently overhauled (at Koedoespoort?) ready to couple on to a train.
Firstly, I thought that all the high-number 6E1s had been converted to 18E, so at least one has missed the process.
Secondly, 1950 to 1957 were/are Bellville locos, painted blue for passenger work on the Cape main line.
Have the others also "survived"? Will they get the purple treatment and where will they end up working?
Regards, Vaughan
